Russia may attack Ukraine on false pretext: United States

The United States has said Russia will launch an attack on Ukraine in the coming days, using false pretences.

US President Joe Biden has said Russia’s military action is imminent. He told reporters on Thursday that a diplomatic solution was still possible.

According to the BBC, quoting Biden’s Foreign Policy Authority, Moscow could justify an attack on Ukraine.

Russia, meanwhile, has called the allegations “baseless” and said the United States was fuelling concerns.

Russia’s western neighbour, Ukraine, has repeatedly denied any involvement in the plot. They even demanded the withdrawal of troops from the Ukrainian border. But Western nations have strongly objected to Russia’s demands.

“They (Russia) are making excuses and may be involved in the ‘False Flag’ attack – we have reason to believe so,” said Joe Biden.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has said that Moscow could make excuses for carrying out terrorist bombings inside Russia, the discovery of mass graves, drone strikes on civilians and even chemical weapons attacks.

“We are here to fight, not to fight,” he said.

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and Prime Minister Boris Johnson have also called for caution against Russia.
